We released Version 3.0 of Geojoey this afternoon with a new look, new UI design and new features.
Firstly I'd like to thank Nick Yee, a Ph.D. student at Stanford, for the awesome Earth icon we've put next to our Landmark and Address Search. Nick created this image using two very high resolution panoramic Earth images from NASA's Blue Marble project, one taken during the day and the other at night. He rendered both images into a sphere shape and then composited the images. The result is a beautiful image of Earth during the day with the lights of populated areas still visible. You can read more about how this image was made and get a high resolution version on Nick's site.
Here are some of the changes and new features in this version of Geojoey:
- A new cleaner user interface to highlight what's important and move the lesser used features out of your way.
- A new logo and slogan design.
- We now support anonymous voting. We're going to try it out for a while and as long as it's not abused, we'll keep it in place
- We've streamlined the registration process.
- Fixed a bug that would cause lines drawn on the map to hang around after you've added your experience.
- The default order of experiences when you arrive at the site is now most popular
- When you add an experience now you need to be zoomed in beyond level 4. We've also improved the explanation of how to add an experience and position your experience icon.
This release also includes several bug fixes, many of which were reported by our users. Thanks to all who sent in a bug report!
